   David Rowan was born in Wayne county Ohio on November 7, 18836 and departed this life at the Halstead Hospital January 27, 1920, having obtained the age of 88 years, 2 months, 20 days.

   When 12 years old he moved with his parents to LaGrango county, Indiana, wher he grew to manhood and engaged in farming.  He was married to Mary Brinley in 1862.  In February 1884, he sold out and with his family came to Kansas, purchasing what was then known as the Rogers home at Paxton, on the Santa Fe Trail, four and one-half miles west of Halstead.  Here he labored during the "fat and lean years" incdent to the residents of the time and attained a completence.  After ten years, he took up his residence in Halstead and remained there until the death of his wife in January 1914.  Mrs.  Rowan received his most painstaking care during an extended period of ill health, since which time he has resided with his daughter at Sedgwick.
   In 1866 Mr. Rowan united with the Protestant Methodist Church and has been active in Church work.  At his death, he still retained his membership with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Halstead.  He was a Democrat in politics and also active in community affairs. 

   To Mr. & Mrs. Rowan, a daughter was born, Mrs. H. S. Gilhams, now residiing at Sedgwick.  Besides Mrs. Gilhams, he leaves 3 grandchildren.  Gem Gilhams for many years an invalid; H. S. Gilhams, Jr., of Philadelphia and Mrs. Charles H. Glenson and one great grandchild, Charles, .
