   James L. Unruh, 89, died Friday, June 28, 2013 at Presbyterian Manor in Newton, Kansas.  He was born in Leigh on November 17, 1923 to Peter Unruh and Elizabeth Loewen Unruh. He later married Maxine Giffen.  They had two children; son, Steven Unruh of North Newton and daughter, Linda (Michael) Henry of  Wichita.

   Survivors: wife, Maxine; two children, Steven Unruh and Linda Henry; sister,Jeannie Holiday of Kingman and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Julia Henry.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clyde (Bud) Unruh; sister, Eileen Spore and nephew, Jimmy Chris Unruh.

   Jim received military honors while serving in World War II.  He was a member of the 384th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army that fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  He received the purple heart and three bronze stars for his service and sacrifice.

   He was a retired production manager at Pre Stressed Construction.  He was an avid golfer and bowler.  He liked traveling, fishing and caring for his plae in the country.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newton.

   He will be remembered as a "big" guy that worked hard and was very strong.  He was very comassionate and enjoyed helping friends and family.

   A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 13 a Newton Presbyterian Manor Chapel.
