Hayes, W.S.

Dr. W. S. Hayes, Burrton optometrist for 30 years, died in his home here last night at 7:30 after 18 months' illness.

Funeral service will be in Burrton Methodist Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. C. J. Kirk in charge.  Burial will be in Burrton Cemetery.

Born in Middletown, Ohio, September 28, 1877, Dr. Hayes moved with his parents to Nebraska where his father, Rev. Edward J. Hayes, served in the Methodist conference for many years.

Dr. Hayes was married in Indianola, Neb., and moved with his family to Burrton in 1900.  He served 27 towns in the western part of the state as optometrist during the 30 years he was established in Burrton.

Survivors are his widow, two daughers, Mrs. Violet Shropshire and Mrs. Gretta Horton of Wichita; three sons, Dr. W. Leighton Hayes of Shreveport, La., and Gordon Hayes and Glenn Hayes of Kalvesta; and a sister, Mrs. Leota Colson of Lamar, Neb.

Dr. Hayes was a member of the Burrton Masonic Lodge.
