Emma R. Carter

Emma R. Carter, 75, homemaker, died Tuesday (April 28, 1998) at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton.

She was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Beaumont to William E. and Gretchen C. (Stief) McElroy. She married A.W. Carter in 1953, in Los Angeles. He preceded her in death in April 1969.

She was a member of the Beaumont Christian Church in Beaumont and the Newton Area Senior Center.

Survivors include: one son, Rickie W. Carter of Newton; three daughters, Jackie L. Begeschki of May, Texas, Rebecca S. Hickle of Rosehill and Donna D. Williams of Hesston; two brothers, H.J. McElroy of Beaumont and LeRoy McElroy of Rogers, Ark.; two sisters, Gretchen M. McElroy of Wichita and Helen Calvin of Latham; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Ronald F. Gloe officiating. Burial will be announced later. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with the American Diabetes Association or Newton Area Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
