Helen Androes, 101, 3001 Ivy Drive in North Newton, nursing home aide, died Thursday (Aug. 6, 1998) at Kidron Bethel Health Care.

She was born Jan. 16, 1897, in Marion County on a farm near Goessel to Herman and Anna (Nikkel) Androes.

She grew up on a farm and received her education in a little country school and graduated there from the grade school. In 1914 she and her family moved to Minnedoka, Idaho, for five years.

She was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Aberdeen, Idaho. She came back to Kansas and transferred her church membership to Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel. In September 1937, she transferred to First Mennonite Church in Newton where she remained a member.

She went into domestic work and was almost always in Newton. She took care of elderly people in their homes, and for 17 years she took care of a blind woman.

Survivors include: one brother, Abe Androes of Hesston; and one sister, Frieda Schmidt of Wichita.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Mennonite Church in Newton with the Rev. Clarence Rempel officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with Kidron Bethel Health Care and First Mennonite Church in care of the funeral home.
