Hilda Mae Bestvater

Hilda Mae Bestvater, 82, died Sunday (Sept. 13, 1998) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus.

She was born July 26, 1916, in Marion to Henry and Mabel (Speckman) Hett. She married Frank Bestvater Sept. 20, 1942, at Marion. He preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1995.

They lived at rural Canton until moving to Newton in 1973. She was a former member of the H.D.U. in McPherson County and was a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel.

Survivors include: two sons, James Bestvater of Wichita and William Bestvater of Belton, Mo.; one daughter, Erna Mae David of Lyons; two half-brothers, Roger Hett of California and Wayne Hett of Cherryvale; one half-sister, Nadine Duffy of Collins, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen Ewing and Mabel Gish.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with the Revs. James Dunn and Mark Wiens officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery near Newton. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home in Goessel.

Memorials have been established with National Kidney Foundation and the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
