Edgar Arnold Templeton

Edgar Arnold Templeton, 91, died today (Sept. 24, 1998) at Newton Presbyterian Manor, where he suffered from congestive heart disease.

He was born Nov. 4, 1906, on the family farm in Sycamore Township in Butler County to Robert E. Templeton and Grace H. (Snoddy) Templeton. He married Edith Evelyn Watson Sept. 1, 1929, in Wichita. She survives of Newton.

He was a graduate of El Dorado High School and Kansas State University. He taught vocational agriculture for 10 years in Smith Center, WaKeeney and El Dorado. He established the F.F.A. chapters at WaKeeney and El Dorado. In August of 1947 he returned to Butler County and began farming with his brother John.

Edgar retired after 15 years as maintenance foreman with the Kansas Turnpike Authority, where he worked at both Cassoday and El Dorado.

He served as President of the Butler County fair board and as an elder in Presbyterian churches in DeGraff and El Dorado. He was Sunday School superintendent in DeGraff Presbyterian Church. After retirement he was active with the Great Plains Woodcarvers in Wichita and the El Dorado Art Association. He moved from El Dorado to Newton in October 1991 where he was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Other survivors include one son, David E. Templeton of DeSoto, Texas; one brother, John C. Templeton of El Dorado; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Burial will be in the Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado.

Memorials have been established with First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado in care of the funeral home.
