Edward Furlong
HALSTEAD -- Edward Furlong, 54,
Halstead Police Chief and retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant,
died Friday (Oct. 16, 1998) at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in
Wichita.
He was born Feb. 6, 1943, in Bronx,
N.Y., to Edward J. and Elizabeth M. (Gribben) Furlong. He married
Barbara A. Madajewski Sept. 9, 1961, at Carteret, N.J. She survives
of the home.
A Halstead resident since 1979, he was
a member of the American Legion and the U.S. Deputy Sheriff's
Association. He was a USD 440 DARE officer and on the USD 440 Site
Council.
Other survivors include: three
daughters, Kelly Unruh of Halstead, Deanna Furlong of Halstead and
Michele Streeter of Rapid City, S.D.; two brothers, James Furlong of
Matawan, N.J., and David Furlong of Spotswood, N.J.; and two sisters,
Elizabeth Gush of South River, N.J., and Christine Donato of South
River, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, a son, Edward A. Furlong, and a brother, Daniel Furlong.
Rosary was 7 p.m. Monday at Kaufman
Funeral Home in Halstead. Funeral Mass was 2:01 p.m. Tuesday at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Halstead with Father James O'Shea
officiating.
Burial was be in Halstead Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with
Leukemia Society and DARE in care of the funeral home.
