Tela V. Cornelius

Tela V. Cornelius, 80, homemaker, died Monday (Oct. 26, 1998) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community.

She was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Freedom, Ark., to Thomas and Minerva (Graham) Pendergraft. She married Charles E. Cornelius in Reno, Nev. He survives.

She was a member of Allerton Southern Baptist Church in Wichita.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Virginia Holub and Alice Kasper, both of Newton; two brothers, Buhrl Pendergraft of Gridley, Calif., and Jerome Pendergraft of Redding, Calif.; one sister, Olivia Webster of Gridley, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and seven sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lamb-Nutter Mortuary Chapel in Whitewater with Pastor Enoch Duncan officiating. Burial will be in the Whitewater Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with family greeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Lamb-Nutter Mortuary.

Memorials have been established with Zion Missionary Baptist Mission in Newton in care of the funeral home.
