Alvin H. Neufeld

Alvin H. Neufeld, 68, 1005 S. Plum, retired factory and office employee for Hay and Forage, former HesstonCorp. employee for 38 years before retiring in 1996, died Monday (Dec. 7, 1998) at his residence.

He was born Feb. 14, 1930, in Inman to Henry R. and Anna (Hiebert) Neufeld. He married Lorraine "Lorrie" Fant Aug. 21, 1954, in Stratford, Conn. She survives of Newton.

He was a member of Newton Bible Church where he served as trustee and deacon for many years, volunteered as a Sunday School teacher for the mentally challenged, was a driver for the Sunday School class bus, sang in the church choir and attended the Men's prayer breakfast of the church. He also served in voluntary service as a 1-W during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1955. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and helping people in need. He also worked out his own mission by often inviting the homeless to stay with them until they could get on their own.

Other survivors include: one son, Rev. Jerry Rahm of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Naomi Neufeld Cossey of Grandview, Mo., Martha Sundquist of Olathe and Lydia Johnson of Newton; four sisters, Clara Voth and Viola A. Trost, both of Hesston, Edith Flickinger of McPherson and Leona Goering of Moundridge; one brother, Menno Henry Neufeld of Moundridge; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Rudy Neufeld.

Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Walton Cemetery in Walton. Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Newton Bible Church with the Revs. Don Myer and Ted Veer officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family greeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission or Central Homecare and Hospice in Newton in care of the funeral home.
