Dr. A. Wayne Rose

Dr. A. Wayne Rose, 82, 409 Bender Lane, died Saturday (Dec. 19, 1998) at his home in Newton.

He was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Wichita to Roy Whitten and Ottie Elizabeth (Wilson) Rose. He married Iona E. Mundell June 10, 1944, in Wichita. She survives of the home.

He was the first periodontist to receive certification in the State of Kansas where he practiced for 25 years, retiring in 1970 due to medical reasons.

He was a member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Newton, Kansas State Dental Society, American Dental Association, American Academy of Dental Practice Administration, Sunflower Dental Society and Delta Sigma Delta fraternity. He was former president of Wichita Dental Society, Seventh District Dental Society, Southwestern Society of Periodontics, Kansas Society for Dentistry for Children and fellow American Academy of Periodontics.


He attended Wichita State University and was a graduate of UMKC School of Dentistry in Kansas City, Mo. He interned at Forsyth Dental Infirmary for Children in Boston and practiced Children's Dentistry in Wichita since 1946. He was listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.

He served as a U.S. Navy Reserve Dental Corp during World War II.

Other survivors include many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert O. Rose.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Keazirian from St. Luke Presbyterian Church, Dr. Frank Kik from Professor Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, N.C., and Pastor Richard Gorham from Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Wichita officiating. Private burial will be in Quiring Old Mission Mausoleum in Wichita. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with St. Luke Presbyterian Church and Central Homecare and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
