J. Richard Blosser
J. Richard Blosser, 83, of North Newton
died Thursday (Dec. 24, 1998) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 9, 1915, in Dunlap,
Ind., to Christian and Carrie (Yoder) Blosser.
On June 23, 1946, he married Mary Ann
Pankratz in Newton.
He was associate editor of the
Mennonite Weekly Review. He joined the editorial staff of the
Mennonite Weekly Review in 1946, retiring in 1977. He oversaw
bookkeeping and reported on serious news events, such as the
Mennonite World Conference at Amsterdam in 1967 and Hurricane Camille
in 1969.
He belonged to Bethel College Mennonite
Church and was a past member of the Kansas Mennonite Mens Chorus.
He grew up in the Goshen, Ind., area
and also Vero Beach, Fla. He was a 1933 graduate of Goshen High
School and attended Goshen College. He worked at Goshen Rubber Co.
and the Elkhart County Indiana Department of Public Welfare before
serving with Civilian Public Services from 1942 to 1946.
Survivors include: his wife of North
Newton; a son, Donald Blosser of Newton; two daughters, Debbie Penner
of Newton and Carol Temple of Elyria; two sisters, Christine Hartzler
of Ashland, Ohio, and Sara Melson of Silverdale, Wash.; and four
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; and two brothers, Henry F. Blosser and Ralph Blosser.
A memorial service was at 2 p.m. today
at Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton with Pastor
Darrell Fast of the church officiating. Burial was in Greenwood
Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials have been established with
Bethel College Mennonite Church and Kidron Bethel Health Care in care
of Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
