Martha Shireman

PEABODY -- Martha Shireman, 103, homemaker, died today (Feb. 9, 1999) at Peabody Community Living Center in Peabody. She was born Aug. 18, 1895, in Perry, Okla., to John and Lena (Klatt) Swendig. She married Leon Ray Shireman Dec. 31, 1915, in Newton. He preceded her in death in November 1952. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton. She moved to Newton at the age of six from Oklahoma. Survivors include one brother, Raymond Oursler of Marion, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Leroy Shireman and Lowell Ray Shireman. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Keating of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established with Peabody Community Living Center in care of the funeral home.
