Marie McDonald

Marie McDonald, 84, 616 S. Poplar in Newton, cosmetologist, died Tuesday (Feb. 23, 1999) at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Shawnee. She was born Dec. 3, 1914, in Walton to Gilbert and Cloie (Myers) Taylor. She married Clad W. McDonald Oct. 6, 1935, in Newton. He preceded her in death July 14, 1987. She owned and operated Clip and Curl Corner in Newton, retiring Dec. 3, 1998. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. She was past president of United Methodist Women's group, volunteer for Red Bird missions and also volunteer worker at the hospital, all in Newton. She was a graduate of Newton High School and a cosmetology school in Wichita. Survivors include: two sons, Jay W. McDonald of Boulder, Colo., and Jan Taylor McDonald of Huntsville, Ala.; one daughter, Julie Rees of Basehor; one sister, Mabel Nicodemus of Newton; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Merrill Taylor. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Salem United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. C. Kent Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with family greeting friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home. Memorials have been established with Salem United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
