Steven Leon Shepherd, 51, teacher and coach at USD. Sedgwiock fopr 39 years. passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 1, 2014. He was born in Fredoniaa to Edward Leon and Thelia Irene Matney Pfeifer. Steve's mother passed away in 1958 and he and his brother, Charlie were adopted by his aunt and uncle, Don and Marilyn Shepherd.
He grew up and attended school in Neodesha, ElDorado, and graduated from Circle High School, Towanda, in 1971. He attended Butler County Junior College and grduated from Emporia State University iin 1976, majoring i n Education. After grduation he started his teachiing and coaching career at Sedgwick High School. He retired for a short time, missed the kids and returned to teaching and sports.
He was an avid sports fan loving all sports and excelled in golf, winning many tournaments. He as a fan of KU, Shockers, Royals and the Chiefs. His goal was to teach all of his grandchildren until they had completed their schooling in Sedgwick.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki in 2008 and is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Liby (Jason Engelbrecht) of Andale; son, Chris Shepherd (Brent Deiney) , Kerri Shepherd (Brent Deviney) of Sedgwick; 5 grandchildren.
Services were March 8 in Wichita.
