Lester R. Miller

HESSTON -- Lester R. Miller, 80, formerly of Hesston, died Sunday (June 27, 1999) at Newton Medical Center.

He was born May 28, 1919, in Walton to Herman R. and Ruth S. (Hooley) Miller. He married Dorothy L. Toevs March 26, 1951, at First Mennonite Church in Newton. She survives of Hesston.

He was a member of Newton Bible Church and Transportation Communications International Union. He was crew caller and clerk for AT & SF Railway for more than 36 years, retiring in May 1980.

He enjoyed bicycle riding, being outdoors, fixing items and flower gardening. He also enjoyed telling jokes and was a handyman.

Other survivors include: one son, Steven Miller of Laurel, Mont.; one daughter, Susan Porter of Wichita; two sisters, Wilma Hunt and Lola McCullough, both of Farmington, N.M.; three brothers, Donald Miller of Moundridge, Kenneth E. Miller of Fairview, Utah, and Willis R. Miller of Newton; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Newton Bible Church with the Rev. Don Myer officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with Newton Bible Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
