Joseph Anthony Kasha

Joseph Anthony Kasha, 89, died Sunday (July 11, 1999) at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton.

He was born Aug. 3, 1909, in Cuba, Kan., to Joseph E. and Antonia Marie (Shindler) Kasha. He married Mary Ann Jakl Aug. 7, 1946, in McAllen, Texas. She preceded him in death.

He attended Lisle University in Lisle, Ill., with a business major. During the war he was a supervisor for Christopher Iron Works in Wichita. In 1946, he became a Phillips 66 jobber. He was owner and operator of Phillips 66 station and bulk in Herington, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Herington and Knights of Columbus for more than 40 years. He was awarded the KOC honorary lifetime member award. He sponsored Phillips 66 youth bowling and ball teams.

He also received many awards on Knights of Columbus and Phillips 66 bowling teams. He was a former member of Herington Band Boosters and St. John's PTO. He moved to Newton in 1992 from Herington and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton.

Survivors include: one son, Joseph A. Kasha of Overland Park; one daughter, Maryann Kemph of Newton; three sisters, Betrice Cannon of Wichita, Almina Maier of Fort Collins, Colo., and Bertha Ashton of Belleville; one brother, Vlatimer Kasha of Vilissa, Iowa; and eight grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Otis Kasha; and one sister, Olga Kasha.

Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary' Catholic Church in Newton. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. John Brungardt and Deacon Hein Paul Hguyen of the church officiating. Burial and graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Herington.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with St. Mary's Building Fund or Ki dron Bethel Village for Heath Care equipment in care of the funeral home.
