John Henry Ruebke, 77, passed away on Wednesday (Oct. 17, 2012) at Schowalter Villa, Hesston. He was born on Aug. 19, 1935, in Pretty Prairie, the son of Henry and Agnes Krehbiel Ruebke.

He owned and operated Ruebke Landscaping and Garden Center in Hesston from 1972 to 2007. On Nov. 27, 1959, he married Beatrice Brenneman in Hesston. She survives. John was a member of Hesston Mennonite Church, and was an active participant in the Wichita Farmers Market. He also was part of the alternate service for the Mennonite Central Committee.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice of Hesston; sons, Don (Michelle) of Newton, and Tim (Amy) of Port Republic, Va.; daughters, Rita (Dave) Wainwright of Richmond, Va., and Gwen (David E.) Janzen of Hesston; brother, Herb (Bonnie) Ruebke of Hutchinson; sisters, Ruth (Bob) Stucky of Hutchinson, and Judith (Corey) Lowden of Independence; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 2:30 to 6 p.m., with family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 21, 2012) at Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Hesston. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday (Oct. 22, 2012) at Hesston Mennonite Church in Hesston, with pastor John Murray officiating. Private family burial will take place at Eastlawn Cemetery in Hesston. Memorials may be made to Schowalter Villa, or MCC, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 107 S. Lancaster, P.O. Box 32, Hesston, KS 67062.
