Bertha Kim Thiessen

BUHLER -- Bertha Kim Thiessen, 94, died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at the Sunshine Home in Buhler.

She was born Dec. 5, 1905 in Harvey County to Emil and Elise Booz Kim. She married N.J. Thiessen June 25, 1933. He died Sept. 4, 1941. She graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor's degree in education and from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia with a master of science degree in science. She was a lifetime Reno County resident and taught at Hill School, Lilydale School and Buhler Grade School. She retired in 1971. She was a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church in Buhler and the church Herwanna Chapter.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Penner and Katherine Schroeder, and three brothers, Carl Kim, Arnold Kim and Ben Kim.

Survivors include: a son, Dale Thiessen of San Jose, Calif.; and one grandchild.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Buhler Mortuary in Buhler. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastors Nick Rempel and Brent Warkentin presiding. A private graveside service will follow at Buhler Municipal Cemetery.
