David R. Hawk
David R. Hawk, 80, of Newton, retired
Santa Fe Railroad employee, died Sunday (Oct. 17, 1999) at Newton
Medical Center.
He was born June 8, 1919, in Linton,
Ind., to Benjamin Rufus and Viola (Benton) Hawk. He married Gertrude
Grochowsky May 22, 1943, in Ft. Knox, Ky. She preceded him in death
Feb. 20, 1973.
He was a member of Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton and lifetime member of VFW. He
enjoyed collecting antique oil lamps and lanterns.
Survivors include: six sons, Luke Hawk
of Goessel, Daniel Hawk of Ft. Worth, Texas, Mark Hawk of Marion,
George Hawk of Topeka, David Hawk of Barstow, Calif., and Glenn Hawk
of Wichita; one daughter, Mary Helen Baker of Newton; four brothers,
Leonard Hawk, Paul Hawk and Joe Hawk, all of Indiana, and Melvin Hawk
of Tennessee; four sisters, Naomi Ayers of Florida and Esther
Watkins, Ruth Jackson and Joann Jones, all of Indiana; 21
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in
death by one brother, Howard Hawk; and two sisters, Dorothy Manuel
and Katherine Hawk.
Recitation of Rosary will be 7 p.m.
Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be 10
a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev.
Floyd McKinney officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic
Cemetery in Newton.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today
and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and St. Jude's Children's
Hospital in care of the funeral home.
