Maurine W. Briar
Maurine W. Briar, 79, of Newton, died
today (Oct. 26, 1999) at Newton Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 30, 1920, in Newton
to Fred H. and Luella (Molzen) Drier. She married Norman N. Briar
Sept. 25, 1938, in Wichita. He preceded her in death in 1976.
She was a former saleswoman for J.C.
Penney in Newton, clerical worker at Halstead Nursing Center in
Halstead and later a sales clerk for Graber's Hardware in Newton. She
was a member of Highland Trinity United Church of Christ in rural
Newton and Christian Science Society in Boston, Mass.
Survivors include: two sons, Vic Briar
of Canon City, Colo., and Stan Briar of Hesston; one daughter, Sondra
Berry of Newton; two brothers, Nelson Drier of Hesston and Alvin
Drier of Newton; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her
parents; stepmother, Keturah Drier; and two brothers, Kenneth Drier
and Delbert Drier.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m.
Thursday at Highland Trinity United Church of Christ with the Rev.
Lyle Albright officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in
rural Newton.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m.
Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
Highland Trinity United Church of Christ Bible Sunday School class in
care of the funeral home.
