Clarence I. Kirchmer

TOPEKA -- Clarence I. Kirchmer, 81, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at a hospital in Topeka. He was the brother of Don Kirchmer and Helen Tipton, both of Newton.

He was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Sedgwick to Carl and Pearl (Butler) Kirchmer. He married Doris Homan. She preceded him in death in 1989. He married Evelyne Still January 1991, in Topeka. She survives of Topeka.

He was born and raised in Newton. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served in France.

He worked for Santa Fe Railroad for many years, retiring in 1978.

He was an avid camper. He was a member of Sunchasers, National Campers and Hikers Association, National Campers and Hikers Association group in Newton and Wagoneers Camping Club in Topeka.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Linda McIver of Salina; another sister, Alma Frischenmeyer of Wichita; five step children; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will and burial will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody with military honors conducted by a honor guard from the army at Ft. Riley.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka.
