Thelma Katherine Keller

Thelma Katherine Keller, 88, of Newton, homemaker, died Monday (Jan. 24, 2000) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

She was born Aug. 30, 1911, in Newton to T. L. and Margaret (Brooks) Leckington. She married David Keller May 1, 1931, in Newton. He preceded her in death April 17, 1988.

She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary in Newton, where she helped prepare meals for many years. She also was a member of VFW Auxiliary in Newton. She was a waitress at local restaurants for more than 30 years.

Survivors include: one son, Richard Keller of El Dorado; two brothers, Vernon Leckington of Cheney and Maurice M. "Bob" Leckington of Newton; one sister, Helen Peak of Terre Haute, Ind.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services and burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton with the Rev. Louise MacClanahan, chaplain from Newton Medical Center officiating.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.
