Eli M. Bontrager
HESSTON -- Eli M. Bontrager, 86, farmer
and gardener, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2000) at Halstead Hospital.
He was born Dec. 22, 1913, in Yoder to
David K. and Mary (Bontrager) Bontrager. He married Opal G. Selzer
Jan. 1, 1940, in Protection. She preceded him in death Jan. 31, 1993.
He married Bessie Remmenga June 1, 1996, in Hesston. She survives.
He was a member of Hesston Mennonite
Church and Hesston Lions Club. He lived in the Yoder and Hutchinson
areas and farmed in Missouri and rural Burrton until moving to
Hesston. He was active in Golden Agers and Hesston Area Seniors.
Other survivors include: three sons,
Ivan Bontrager of Hesston, Mervin Bontrager of Wichita and Orvin
Bontrager of Aurora, Neb.; one step son, Bob Holman of Camaf, Wash.;
one daughter, Inez Unruh of Halstead; three step daughters, Henrietta
Singleton and Verda Kanada of Laramie, Wyo., and Elizabeth Williams
of Rice, Texas; one brother, Rudy Bontrager of Haven; one sister,
Susie Bontrager of Yoder; 11 grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; and 17
step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son,
Elvin Bontrager; two brothers, Enos Bontrager and Jonas Bontrager;
and five sisters, Lizzie Hostetler, Clara Bontrager, Katie Yoder,
Mary Bontrager and Sara Eash.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m.
Saturday at Hesston Mennonite Church with the Revs. Cheryl
Hershberger and Ron Rich officiating. Graveside service will be 2
p.m. Saturday in the Yoder Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m.
Friday at Miller Funeral Home in Hesston and 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday
at Yoder Mennonite Church. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Friday at the funeral home.

home.
