Elsye Allison
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Elsye Allison, 73,
died Saturday (March 11, 2000) at University of Kansas Medical Center
in Kansas City. She was a longtime resident of Kansas City, Mo.
She was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Newton to
John P. and Otillie (Becker) Wiebe. She married Guy V. Allison May 5,
1951, in Newton. He preceded her in death.
She grew up in Newton and attended
Roosevelt Grade School and Newton junior and senior high schools. She
graduated in 1945.
She was a reporter for the Newton
Kansan from 1945 to 1946. After attending Washburn College in Topeka,
she was a news reporter for Topeka State Journal, then women's editor
for the Independence Missouri Examiner. She later worked at the
Kansas City Star as a society editor.
She was a former member of First
Mennonite Church in Newton and later was a longtime member of St.
Andrew's Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Mo.
Survivors include: three sons, Guy
Allison II and Philip S. Allison, both of Tulsa, Okla., and John S.
Allison of Olathe; four sisters, Ericka Stucky and Delores Thomas,
both of Newton, Esther Norton of Tulsa, Okla., and Doris Dunlavy of
Longmont, Colo.; two brothers, John E. Wiebe of Newton and Dallas E.
Wiebe of Cincinnati; and six grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her
parents; and one brother, Ronald Wiebe.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m.
Monday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Mo.
