Oil Pumper Hurt In
Forty-Foot Tumble
Burrton - A 40-foot
fall from an oil derrick in the Burrton field northeast of Four Corners
resulted in critical injuries for Charles McNown, pumper for the Colorado
Petroleum Co. on the Sabin lease.
McNown is a patient
at Halstead hospital suffering from a fractured back and chest injuries, but
his condition is reported to be somewhat improved. He will undergo a back operation as soon as
he recovers sufficiently to withstand it.
The accident
occurred when McNown accompanied a group of friends on a picnic at his
place. The group went to the derrick to
take some pictures and McNown climbed up the side of the derrick.
While descending
from this height he suddenly plummeted to the ground, landing on his back and
shoulders.
