Oil Pumper Hurt In Forty-Foot Tumble

Burrton - A 40-foot fall from an oil derrick in the Burrton field northeast of Four Corners resulted in critical injuries for Charles McNown, pumper for the Colorado Petroleum Co. on the Sabin lease.

McNown is a patient at Halstead hospital suffering from a fractured back and chest injuries, but his condition is reported to be somewhat improved.  He will undergo a back operation as soon as he recovers sufficiently to withstand it.

The accident occurred when McNown accompanied a group of friends on a picnic at his place.  The group went to the derrick to take some pictures and McNown climbed up the side of the derrick.

While descending from this height he suddenly plummeted to the ground, landing on his back and shoulders.
