Robert G. "Bob" Shepler 85, died Monday, October 27, 2014 at Park West Retirement Plaza in Wichita, Kansas.

He was born May 15, 1929 in Netwon, Kansas to Kenneth and Ilona Shepler. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marilyn Edwards Shepler. They were married in 1951; she passed away in 1991. He married Donzella Moore on December 26, 1993 in Newton Kansas and she survives.

Bob Shepler graduated from Emporia State University in 1950. He played football and held several records. In 1948, he returned a punt for 74 yards. He held that record until it was broken in 2001. He also was a small college All-American in 1950.  After graduating, he coached at Eskridge, Kansas, Nickerson, Kansas, Wichita East High and Eastern New Mexico University. He began coaching at North High School in 1964. He was the head football coach from 1964 to 1974 and then again from 1978 to 1983. During that span, he coached 55 All-City performers, seven Wichita Eagle Top 11 Selections. In 2009 he ranked sixth all time in wins in the City League. His record during that time was 101-32. He had 16 straight winning seasons during those years. He served as North's Athletic Director for more than 15 years. He was the Kansas Athletic Director of the year in 1978-1979. He also coached wrestling and baseball. Finally, he coached many classes during that time in the annual River Festival, a North High tradition.  He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family wood working and, more than anything, he loved to golf.

He is survived by his wife Donzella and his children: Rob Shepler and wife Jane Shepler of Folsom, California; Jeff Shepler wife Joan Shepler of Wichita, Kansas; and Julie Horsley and husband Warren Horsley of Port Angeles, Washington. He is also survived by his siblings: James Shepler and wife Diana of Denver, Colorado; and Arletta Tyner of Apache Junction, Arizona. He is also survived by six grandchildren - Tim Shepler, Megan Shepler, Katelin Shepler, Nathan Horsley, Sierra Horsley and Chad Shepler - and six great grandchildren Lauriann, Alyssa, Sylis, Dacia, Benjamin & Nicholas.

At this time there will not be a funeral service. There will be a Celebration Of Life in the summer of 2015.
