Orva Irene (Yutzy) Hargett died Saturday, November 8, 2014 in Newton, Kansas as a result of ALS.

She was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on September 21, 1936 to Joseph N and Fanny (Helmuth) Yutzy.  Orva married Ronald Dean Hargett, son of Helen Irene Hargett of Roswell, New Mexico, on May 24, 1963. Together they shared 51 years of marriage, three sons, and their families: Dean Alan and wife Bridget Murphy, and son Samuel and daughter Nora; Kirk Vincent and wife Rhonna (Williams), and two sons, Joseph and Isaac; Craig Hargett and wife Jackie Parker, and daughter Emma.

She grew up on the family farm in rural Reno County, Kansas attending Yoder Mennonite Church until she left to study nursing at Hesston College and Kansas City General Hospital. A graduate of the class of 1959, Orva loved helping bring babies into the world and was a devoted nurse all her life.  Orva loved exploring new places and visiting familiar scenes. As a child she vacationed with her family in the Rocky Mountains following the harvest. As an adult she enjoyed camping with her husband and children in Wisconsin and Colorado and traveled extensively, visiting family and friends in California, New Mexico, Illinois, and numerous other states.  In 1997 Orva and Ron partook of their first communion as confirmed members of the Roman Catholic Church. As a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton, she participated in both the Altar Society and the Social Justice Committee, volunteered at the Harvey County Homeless Shelter, and advocated for the sanctity of life. In 2011 she was honored by the parish as Female Steward of the Year. She and Ron made pilgrimages with the Diocese of Wichita to the Vatican and the Holy Land. They also made annual visits to La Mesa de la Piedad y de la Misericordia in San Luis, Colorado.

Orva is survived by her husband and children, as well as her two brothers, one sister and their families: Harold Joseph and Jackie (St. Cyr) Yutzy, Merl Eugene and Marvis (Hebron) Yutzy, and Elaine Faye Anderson.  Preceding Orva in death were her parents, stepmother Nora (Bontrager Schrock), and baby-sister Katie Mae.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 12, 2014.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, November 13, 2014, both at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Newton.  Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton. A memorial has been established with St. Mary's Catholic Church School and Kansans for Life, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
