Staley, Dorothy

Dorothy Jean (King) Norris Staley passed away on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at Asbury Park in Newton.

She was born on Aug. 21, 1923, at home in Stevens County to Purdie and Bernice (Swafford) King.  On April 11, 1939, she married Kreston Norris. He died in September 1970. To their union six children were born. On June 1972, she married Fay Staley. He died in August 1989. She welcomed his five children into the family.  Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newton. She also belonged to the U.M.W. and the Rachel Circle. She held a membership with the 23er pen pal club in which over the years she had been quite active.  She also left behind several years' worth of homemade Christmas ornaments and numerous other special handmade crafts.

Dorothy is survived by a brother, Leland King, Lenexa; five children, William (Dolores) Norris, Punta Gorda, Florida, Patricia Hendrix, Springdale, Arkansas, Kreston (Judy) Norris, Paola, Shirley (John) Bethel, Abilene, Texas, and Martin (Marilyn) Norris, Newton; three children, Kent (Beverly) Staley, Glendale, Arizona, Donna Domenico, Lowell, Arkansas, and Lynda Staley, Springdale, Arkansas; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.  Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Charles King; sister, Fern (King) Gromer; son, Gary Norris; step-son, Kenneth Staley and a step-daughter, LaVonne (Staley) Johnson; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114. Burial will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bluffs Cemetery in Springdale, Arkansas.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Good Shepherd Hospice or Women's Rachel Circle, of First United Methodist Church.  Broadway Colonial Funeral Home of Newton, Kansas is in charge of the arrangements.
