“Abraham D. began his earthly pilgrimage Mar. 22, 1835, in Wayne Co., Ohio.  While crossing a railroad track, he met a tragic death, Dec. 5, 1903, in Harvey Co., Kans.  He married Barbara Gerber of Sonnenberg, Wayne Co., Ohio, Apr. 6, 1865, Rev. C. Sommer officiating.  She was born Feb. 13, 1847, in Wayne Co., Ohio.  He was baptized and admitted into the Sonnenberg Mennonite Church Mar. 25, 1853, and she Apr. 3, 1863, by Rev. U. Sommer.  They were always highly esteemed, as members of the church as citizens where they lived.  He had various church trusts committed to him which he faithfully discharged.  He was repeatedly sent as delegate to the conference of the General Conference branch of the Mennonite Church.  For 12 years he was a director of the Bethel College at Newton, Kans.  For many years he also served on the Public School Board and by his untiring efforts helped to build up the best school in Harvey Co., Kans.  Though he as not an educated man, he nevertheless engaged his powers to promote education.  This fact is now bearing much fruit in his large family of sons and daughters who, imbued with father’s spirt, are utilizing their time and strength in promoting education as you will observe in their history.  This desire to give the coming generations better school advantages than he had is evidenced by sending eight of this children to Bethel College.  He was politically a strong Republican, and took an active part in civic affairs.  From his fifteenth to his thirtieth year he was a practical shoemaker.  After that he followed farming until his death.  In 1869 he moved with his family from Wayne Co., Ohio, to Missouri, and to Halstead, Harvey Co., Kans., Mar., 1884.  She passed to her heavenly reward Mar. 15, 1906, on the home place.  She was a noble Christian mother and left an indelible impress on the memory of her children.”
