BAUMGARTNER Frederick M., 86, passed away August 24, 1996, in Athens, Ga. He was born June 5, 1910 in Indianapolis, In. to Milton D. & Sarah (Hill) Baumgartner. Dr. Baumgartner was a graduate of Butler University and the University of Kansas, with a Ph.D., from Cornell University. He was a professor at Oklahoma State University, where he raised his family. He was a noted ornithologist, served as president of the Oklahoma Ornithological Society, and co-authored with his wife 'Birds of Oklahoma' published 1992. He was active as a Boy Scout leader and was a founding member of the Stillwater Unitarian Church Fellowship. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, A. Marguerite Heydweiller Baumgartner; a sister, Barbara B. Murphy; 3 sons, Ted Baumgartner & wife, Gloria of Athens, Ga.; William Baumgartner & wife, Prairie of Ridgefield, Wa., Karl Baumgartner & wife, Carol of Richmond, Tx.; a daughter, Barbara Mac- Alpine & husband, Gordon of Dexter, Mi.; & 9 grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held in Athens, Ga. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oklahoma Ornithological Society, c/o William Carter, PO Box 1891, Ada, Ok 74821.
