Leroy J. Wall Obituary

Leroy J. Wall, 70, died Monday, March 9, 2015, at Newton Medical Center. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Grace Community Church in Newton. A full obituary is scheduled to appear in the Kansan next week.

Leroy J. Wall, 70, died Monday, March 9, 2015, at Newton Medical Center. He was born September 16, 1944, in Newton, Kansas, to John A. and Elma (Klaassen) Wall.

On March 25, 1967, he married Helen Harms at First Mennonite Church in Aberdeen, ID, and she survived of the home. Leroy was a graduate of Bethel College in North Newton, KS, and he served his country in the United States Army. Leroy was a locomotive engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 2006 after nearly 44 years. He was a member of the Grace Community Church in Newton where he was active in the Jail ministry at the Church. He enjoyed sharing his faith and the gospel with others and raising them up. He also enjoyed Bible study and developing his faith in God. Leroy looked forward to coffee time with his friends and he enjoyed reading, studying maps and yard work.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Helen of the home; son, David Wall of Missoula, MT; daughter, Erin Wall of Kodiak, AK; sisters, Deanna and Eldean Ratzlaff of Mountain Lake, MN, and Louise Ledere of Beach Park, IL.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Leroy's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Grace Community Church in Newton, Kansas, with Pastors David Reimer and Steve Friesen presiding. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday March 18th with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. Private family inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.

Memorials are suggested to Grace Community Church Jail Ministry in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
