Steven Alan Koehn

1952 - 2013 | Obituary

Steven Alan Koehn, age 61, passed away on Oct. 27 after a short illness with esophageal cancer.

He was born on Sept. 12, 1952, to George and Inez (Wiebe) Koehn. Steve graduated from Newton High School in the class of 1971. He was a former employee of Mennonite Press, Valley Floral and most recently Toni D's catering and Larksfield Place.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.

He is survived by his mother; partner, Larry Britton; brothers, Jim (Alice) of Westminster, Colo., Stan (Teresa) and Brad (Eileen) both of Manhattan; and a sister, Virginia (Ron) Benninghoff of Newton.

Steven was a devoted partner, friend and family member. All those who knew

Steven felt privileged to be in his company. Steven loved to share his love of the outdoors with others, whether it be biking in Bike Across Kansas, basking in the sunshine at his pool, snow skiing in the Rockies, hiking in the mountains, horseback riding, running in the River Fest Run or walking in the moonlight.

He was always able to see the positive in people and bring out their best qualities. A day with Steven was always memorable and well spent. Steven was a prankster, who loved Halloween. He was always generous with thoughts and deeds.

Steven was patient, kind, loyal and a hard worker who enjoyed a job finished and well done. A passionate cook, Steven took his recipe for baked beans with him, much to everyone's chagrin. Along with cooking, he loved dining out and sharing these experiences.

Traveling was always a joy for Steven, yet coming home to his beloved horses, dogs and chickens gave him peace. It was always a treat to have a breakfast with Steve, especially when the eggs came from his chickens and the tomatoes from his garden.

Steven was a great fan of WSU basketball and baseball and his beloved Wichita Wings. Weekends spent at county auctions, shopping and exploring Kansas festivals were a guaranteed good time.

Steven, you left us too early and you left us spoiled by all you shared with us and your love of life.

We will celebrate Steven's life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society may be left at Petersen's Funeral Home in Newton.
