Obituary: Steele, Bobbie: Harvey County Genealogical Database

ENID, Okla. - Bobbie A. "Doc" Steele, DVM, 89, died Oct. 26, 2008, at United Methodist Home in Enid. He was born March 5, 1919, on the family farm near Halstead, to Ara and Hattie May Boyer Steele. He graduated from Halstead High School in 1936. He graduated from Hutchinson Community College, where he was a member of the football team.

He then graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1952. While at Kansas State University, he was president of Blue Key, a member of Alpha Zeta academic fraternity, president of the Junior American Veterinary Medical Association, as well as a member of the livestock judging and meats judging teams. He was a longtime member of the Masons.

He practiced veterinary medicine at the C.K. Ranch in Brookville, Salina, Buhler, and Salem, Ore.

On March 9, 1940, he married Laurel Esther Nininger in Newton. She died Aug. 24, 2006.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sandy Sorensen and husband Tom of Denver, and Bobby McVey and husband Gene of Enid, Okla.; three grandchildren, Stacy Halloran and husband Kevin, Eric McVey, and Kelly Farmer and husband Joe; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louene McBride.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laurel, son, Brad Steele, grandson, Brent Hanson, sister, Zella Crandall, and four brothers, Alva, Eldo, Floyd and Wayne Steele.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Nick Rempel officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
