He attended Pleasant Plains District 65 Country School, which was located just across the section from their home, so he and his brothers and sisters walked across their pasture to go to school. Edgar married his high school sweetheart, Helen Maxine Taylor, on June 8, 1941 in Augusta Kansas. Ed joined the Navy during WWII and served on the USS Pinkney. Helen lived in Alameda while he was aboard ship and after his honorable discharge they moved to Inglewood CA. where their first child was born.

In summer of 1947 the family moved back to Kansas as Ed had to get back to farming! In 1959 they purchased the Towanda Laundry Mat and managed it for 4 years before the next move to McPherson and a year later to Goessel. At this time Ed was working at Hesston Corporation (now AGCO) as a welder. The next move was to Hesston in January 1970. Ed retired from Hesston Corporation (now AGCO) in June 1985. In 1989 they sold their home and became full time RV'ers for 14 years before settling into an apartment in Goessel, where Ed resided until his death.

Ed's favorite past time was playing pool which he did every week day. He also loved gardening and had just returned home from tending his garden when he died. Ed was also a charter member of Grace Fellowship church in Wichita.
