Obituary

Dorothy Ann (Ewy) Buller, age 89, of Manhattan, died November 6, 2015, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born September 12, 1926, in Jetmore, Kansas, the daughter of Henry O. Ewy and Anna Marie Ewy, and had been a Manhattan resident since 1963.

On January 11, 1953, in Jetmore, Kansas, she was married to Orlan H. Buller

Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother. In the early years of her marriage her focus was on providing loving care to her family. Over time, as family responsibilities decreased her interests included more activities outside the home. But she did not waiver from her strong faith in God, and love of family. Dorothy lived a full and active life devoted, with love, for her family. She enjoyed music, travel, camping and hiking, sports, gardening and taking care of her roses. She especially enjoyed and loved her grandsons.

Dorothy was an excellent clarinetist winning an award of "Excellent" for a clarinet solo at the Sterling College Invitational music festival. She played a clarinet solo at her high school graduation ceremonies, and played clarinet in the Bethel College orchestra for several years.

Her travels included three trips to Europe, visiting seven European countries, and to Algeria, Canada and Mexico, fifty states in the union and cruises to Alaska and Hawaii. Within the US, many State and National Forests and Parks were visited during 40 years of camping. For several months she lived in Alexandria, Virginia while her husband Orlan, was attending the Army Engineering School in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Dorothy loved sports, especially basketball and football. She preferred attending games to watching them on television. During her years in grade and high school she participated in field and track events winning many ribbons. While attending Bethel College she was a member of the Bethel College women intermural basketball team.

She was an excellent home-keeper caring for the health and welfare of her family. Wherever they lived she made sure that the house was a home. During the summer she was busy gardening, caring for roses and many flowers. She was for many years a Christian education teacher at Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Dorothy worked full time at the Herald Book Store in Newton prior to her marriage. In Manhattan she worked part-time for the Manhattan Public Schools in food service, at the Kansas State University Bookstore, for a life insurance and investment firm, and at Kansas State University Office of Registrar helping with enrollment.

Dorothy was very proud of her heritage, of her roots in rural Western Kansas, and she had a great love for her country.

Mr. Buller survives of the home in Manhattan. Additional survivors include her two sons: Randall Buller of Manhattan, and Steven Buller and his wife Sara (Bollig) Buller of Ottumwa, Iowa; one sister, Francis (Ewy) White of Kingman, Kansas; and two grandsons: Eric and Mitchell Buller.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Wilma Ewy-Norton; and one brother, Weldon Ewy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1110 College Avenue, Manhattan, with Reverend Helen Hutchison officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
