Obituary

Sari Ann Pouch, 77, of Newton, KS, formerly of Cherokee, KS, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015.

She was born November 22, 1937, at Joplin, MO, the daughter of Lawrence and Loraine (Brammer) Wheeler.

On January 24, 1957, she was united in marriage to John Pouch at Pittsburg, KS. He preceded her in death on May 17, 2006.

Mrs. Pouch was the City Treasurer before becoming the City Clerk in Cherokee until her retirement in 2004. She also owned and operated Wheeler's Hobbies and Crafts, Trains and Things and Toy Box with her husband. The Doll's Corner, where she repaired and restored dolls was also operated by her.

Membership was held in the Cherokee United Methodist Church, Cherokee, KS, (where she played the organ and piano as she did in the Weir United Methodist Church), Rainbow Girls (past Mother-Advisor), Pittsburg Model Railroad Club (which her father and husband founded), Doll Club of Pittsburg, Cherokee Ruritan, E.H.U., past member of the 4-H Club of Cherokee, Cherokee Homecoming Committee, U.M.W., Circles of Hope in Newton, KS, Angel Tree Project for U.M.C.-Cherokee, and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority.

She is survived by two daughters, Debra Freeman and fiancé, Royce Humble of Cherokee, KS, and Deanna Jackson of Newton, KS, one sister, Judy Richardson of Pittsburg, KS, six grandchildren, Nathan Jackson, Alex Jackson, Matthew Grotheer, Amy Grotheer, Megan Jackson and Myia Jackson, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service for Mrs. Pouch is set for 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2015, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, with Reverend Bob Banks conducting the service. Private family burial will take place at a later date in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Pittsburg. The family suggests memorials to the Railroad Club and/or the Cherokee United Methodist Church.
