1923 - 2015 Obituary
Velma A. Butler, 92, passed away Friday
(Oct. 9, 2015) at Halstead Homestead Assisted Living in Halstead. She
was born July 14, 1923, at home near Talmage, to Fred and Eva
(Overlees) Butler.
She was preceded in death by her
parents and brothers and sisters: Perry (Etta) Butler, Claude (Alma)
Butler, Clyde (Anne) Butler, Wayne (Elaine) Butler, Hazel (Roy)
Holdsworth, Fern (Marvin) Fisher, Mary (Jim) Luker, Nina (Les) Fells
and Gladys (Robert) Forrester. She had 23 nieces and nephews and some
have passed away. She is survived by longtime friend, Norma (Wayne)
Gehring and her daughters, Nonie (Ed) Grandon and Mona (Stephen)
Engelbrecht.
Velma received a degree in religion and
Bible from North West Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho. She received
her Master's in Social Work from the University of Kansas and retired
as Chief of Social Services for the Wichita Area SRS after
28-and-a-half years of service.
A celebration of Velma's life will be
at 2 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 17, 2015) at Hillside Funeral Home West,
2929 W. 13th St. N, Wichita. Memorials may be sent to Kansas Learning
Center For Health, 505 Main St., Halstead, KS 67056. Burial will be
at a later date.
