Harold 'Keith' Garrison

Harold "Keith" Garrison, 83, of Newton died Sunday (Dec. 9, 2007) at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.

He was born April 27, 1924, in Sylvia to John Baker and Lucile (Maughlin) Garrison. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army from February 1943 to January 1946.

In 1950, he graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in agricultural engineering. His first job out of college was with Doane Agricultural Service in St. Louis from 1950 through 1956. He worked for Green Giant Co. in LeSueur, Minn., from 1956 through 1960 before returning to Newton to work as an engineer for Hesston Corp., where he retired in 1989.

He had been an active member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church since 1962. He belonged to the Kansas Engineering Society and the American Society of Agricultural Engineers.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn (Rumford) Garrison, whom he married on Dec. 21, 1947, in Abbyville.

Other survivors include: daughter, Jana Young and husband, Ed Nelson, of Fort Worth, Texas; son John and Jane Garrison of Prairie Village; son, Russ and Jenni Garrison of Marrietta, Ohio; son Glen and Arlene Garrison of Newton; grandchild, Kelly Garcia and husband, Chris, of Weatherford, Texas; great-granddaughter, Isabella Garcia of Weatherford; grandchild, Kasey Young of Vancouver, Wash.; grandchild, Kyler Young of Forth Worth; grandchild, Karen Banister and husband, Bryan, of San Diego; grandchild, Becky Nelson of Seattle; grandchild, Marty Garrison Brown and husband, Gates, of Lenexa; grandchild, Tim Garrison of Prairie Village; grandchild, Laura Garrison of Shawnee; grandchildren, Emily, Sam and Max Garrison of Marietta; grandchildren, Cheyenne and Montana Garrison of Newton; sister, Margaret Barger of Greenwood, Miss.; brother, Kent Garrison, and wife Florence of Eau Claire, Wis.; and sister-in-law Della Garrison of Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Max Garrison and Roy Garrison.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton with Pastor Phil Fischer of the church officiating.

Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton.

Memorial contributions can be made to THUMC Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
