Obituary

Barbara Ruth Billingsley, 88, of Newton passed away Monday (Feb. 22, 2016) at Newton Medical Center.

Barbara was born to Daniel Webster and Vestal Mae (Fox) Bushman on Dec. 5, 1927 in Blackwell, Oklahoma. She and her family moved to Ava, Missouri during the Great Depression to be closer to family.

Barbara graduated from Ava High School in 1944 and married in 1945. Barbara worked for Sears for 33 years, eventually becoming the regional credit manager, a position which allowed her to travel and see the country.

Throughout her life, Barbara remained devout in her faith and passionate about her family. As a member of the Catholic faith, she attended St. Mary's Church in Newton. She enjoyed holding large holiday parties and was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether watching grandchildren and great-grandchildren or simply offering advice. Her family will miss spending time with her and enjoying her delicious strawberry-rhubarb cobbler.

Barbara is survived by her two children, Pamela S. Dyck and Donald E. Billingsley, seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, two nieces and a nephew.

She is preceded in death by her father, mother, brothers Max E. Bushman and Kenneth R. Bushman, and son-in-law Jerry D. Dyck.

Visitation hours for Barbara will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 25, 2016) at Petersen Family Funeral Home. Services conducted by Father Volker will be held at Petersen Family Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Friday (Feb. 26, 2016). Barbara will be interred at Greenwood Cemetery following the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Via Christi Cancer Center. Petersenfamilyfuneralhome.com.
