Obituary

Robert H. Kater, 83, passed away on April 22, 2014, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Robert was born Oct. 5, 1930, to Herman "Sam" and Ethel "Berneice" Lafferty Kater in Newton.

Robert married Patsy R. Casner on Nov. 4, 1950, in Newton. She passed away on Aug. 21, 1997, after 46 years of marriage. Robert married Betty Ahlgrim Stuckey on Dec. 11, 1999. She passed away June 9, 2003.

Robert roller skated professionally in his youth and served an extended tour of duty with the Army in Korea. He retired after a long career with the Santa Fe Railroad. A life-long resident of Newton, he moved to Topeka in 2013.

He is survived by his son, Charles and wife, Barbara of Topeka; grandson, Jeffrey and wife, Theresa of Topeka; granddaughter, Jennifer of North Hollywood, Calif.; and great-grandson, Gabriel of Topeka.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; and brother, Richard Kater of Emporia.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, April 28, at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home. The family will not be present on Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Caring Hands Humane Society, 1400 S.E. Third, Newton, or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 606 N. Main St., Suite 202, Newton. Memorials may also be left at Petersen Family Funeral Home.
