Bill D. Matzenbacher

Bill D. Matzenbacher, 81, of Newton died Monday (Oct. 8, 2007) at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. 

He was born on Jan. 6, 1926, to Carl and Opal (Livengood) Matzenbacher in Pittsburg. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the 7th Fleet, "MacArthur's Navy," in the Southwest Pacific Theater. 

A caring and responsible citizen of Newton all his life, he worked for the Harvey County Roads and Bridges Department for 20 years. 

The proud father of his son, Dallas Matzenbacher, who survives him, he also is survived by a brother, Jack Clayton Matzenbacher, and two grandchildren. 

His parents and sisters, Vi Koger and Margaret Grother, preceded him in death. 

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery. Chaplain Denny Bell with Kansas Christian Home in Newton will officiate.
