Obituary: Dorothy Mae Forney Boylan

KS_Newton -- Dorothy Mae Forney Boylan was born on July 8, 1916, in Hoisington, and she died on Aug. 30, 2012, in Orange, Calif. Dorothy graduated from Newton High School in 1934. She married James Holland Boylan Jr. on April 17, 1937, in Newton. She worked in the Topeka school system for 30 years as an assistant librarian at Topeka High School. Dorothy also served as counselor to American Field Service exchange students. This was a labor of pure love, always providing an encouraging word with her ever-present beaming, uplifting smile. While living in Helena, Mont., she was an avid RV’r, driving her own RV and being active in the Good Sam Club. Dorothy was an expert bridge player and earned her masters status in duplicate bridge. She was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, her husband and one granddaughter. She is survived by her son, James (Jay) Holland Boylan III (Marlene); her daughter, Glee Ann Boylan (Russ); seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. A family memorial will be held at a later date.
