Frances W. Hurd
Newton Frances W. Hurd, 94, passed away on Wednesday (July
18, 2012) at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.
She was born on June 21, 1918, to Harry and Helen (Reynolds)
Easley in Emporia. She had a wonderful childhood in Florence and lived her
early adulthood in the Chase County area. She worked as an assistant to Dr. Leo
McKee in Cottonwood Falls for many years, then moved to Newton with her
husband, George Hurd, in 1975. They have been members of St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Newton since moving there. Frances was active in the Altar Society
for many years.
She loved sewing in her younger years. She began doing
crossword puzzles later on in life, which she believed would keep her mentally
sharp, which she was. She also kept up with current news and politics, was our
family "meteorologist," and reminded all of us of our appointments.
Frances also took care of friends and family with her homemade chicken and
noodles and famous pies.
She is survived by husband, George of Newton; daughters, Kay
(Don) Schommer of Sedgwick, and Pat Paquette and Debi Allison, both of Newton;
son, Ken (Anita) Allison, also of Newton; grandchildren, Mike (Tammy) Schommer,
Dawn (Chris) Wedel, Patti Tunnell, Mark (Dana) Paquette, Michelle Anders, Nick
Allison and Emily (Tim) Boese; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters and
spouses, Virginia Easley, Jean Chambers and Lawrence Chambers, and Harriet
Bruner and Dan Bruner; brother, Frank Easley and Ruth Easley; and son-in-law,
Lee Paquette.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with the
Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 2 p.m., both at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel
in Newton.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday (July 23, 2012) at
St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton, with The Rev. Jim Mainzer presiding. The
family will greet friends following the Rosary. Burial will be in the St. Mary's
Cemetery in Newton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St.
Mary's Catholic Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, in care of Petersen
Funeral Home.
