Obituary

NEWTON — Andrea “Andy” Rodgers, 68, passed away on Friday (March 30, 2012). 

Andy was born on Nov. 3, 1943, to Henry and Bernice (Johnson) Weems. She attended the Peabody school system.

Andrea married Harold Rodgers on Sept. 2, 1960, in Newton Church of the Brethren. They were married 42 years.

Andy enjoyed many different things. She enjoyed ceramics, cooking and her two dogs, Maggy and Autumn. She was very witty and had a tremendous sense of humor. She was an avid watcher and participant of “The Price Is Right” and “The Wheel Of Fortune.” Her family was important to her. She dearly loved her five grandsons: Nathaniel Alumbaugh, Nichalous Alumbaugh, Zacarey Carey, Samuel Carey and Dustin Carey, and two great-granddaughters, Emmalyn Jo Carey and Adalyn Grace Carey. She will be remembered as a very giving person.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Rodgers; daughters, Jeanenne (Gary) Alumbaugh of Newton and Lenora (Kevin) Carey of Valley Center; two brothers, John and Melvin Weems; and sister, Delberta Brandt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Bernice Weems.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Newton Church of the Brethren in Newton.

A memorial has been set up for The American Diabetes Foundation and Caring Hands Humane Society of Newton.

Andy will be missed for her sense of humor and caring ways. The family is thankful for the ways she touched their lives.
