IRVING, Texas — Dick Arlan Anduss died at age 76 on Feb. 6, 2012, at Baylor Hospital in Irving, Texas.

He was born on May 7, 1935, in Newton. At age 16, he began working with the Santa Fe Railroad Company. Two years later, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, and spent two years in Korea as a corporal during the Korean conflict.

He returned to Newton in 1955 after his tour of duty and rejoined the railroad. One year later, he was promoted to civil engineer. In 1968, he became owner/operator of the Champlin service station on West Broadway, eventually acquiring a second Champlin station on North Main Street. In 1974 he sold the service stations and founded Anduss Market in the old Antrim lumber company property on West Fifth Street (next to what is now Okerberg Park). In 1980 he moved to Irving, Texas, to become regional maintenance director of Red Roof Inns. He retired in 2003 and continued living in Irving, Texas. His final years were spent at Emeritus Assisted Living facility in Irving.

He is survived by his brothers, Lynn Edward Anduss of Fort Collins, Colo., and Reign V. Anduss of Newton; his two sons, Marc Leighton Anduss and Craig Arlan Anduss; and his two grandchildren, Alexander Ryan Anduss and Sarah Danielle Anduss.

Anduss will be interred at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in honor of his military service at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211 (214-467-3374).
