EUGENE, Ore.—Eugene J. Buller, also known as “Bing,” passed away at the age of 88 on Feb. 9, 2017 due to age-related illness. He was born in Newton on July 5, 1928 to Ben and Susie (Becker) Buller and raised in Halstead, Kansas.
He graduated from Halstead High School in 1947. Eugene joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War as an airplane mechanic. When he returned to Halstead he met and married Alma Zigmund, who had attended the Halstead School of Nursing. They had two children, Bryon and Cathy before moving to Eugene, Oregon in 1960. Their third child Matt was born in 1961. They later divorced.
Eugene worked for Darigold as a truck driver primarily on the restaurant routes until he retired. Eugene had a passion for the outdoors and spent most of his time fishing and enjoying wildlife.
He is survived by daughter, Cathy; son, Matt; daughter-in-law Dayle; grandchildren Corey, Morgan and Jessica; great grandson Olive; nephews, Greg Buller, Eugene, Ore., Don (Bus) Haury, Halstead; nieces Kristen Mueller and Joyce Koehn both of Halstead.
He was preceded in death by son Bryon in 1986, his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
