Obituary: Catherine A. Tendick

Catherine A. Tendick, 92, died on Friday (April 1, 2011) at Asbury Park in Newton. 

She was born on Feb. 26, 1919, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Walter and Mae (Fleming) Hardin. On Dec. 25, 1943, she married Wilbur Tendick in Kismet. He preceded her in death. 

Catherine has been a resident of Asbury Park since 1987. She lived in the Liberal area from 1947 to 1987, prior to moving to Newton. She was a retired school teacher, spending 26 years in the Liberal school system. 

Catherine looked forward to spending time with her many loving friends, sisters and nieces and nephews. 

Catherine was a graduate of Kansas State University, member of Salem United Methodist Church in Newton, Double Duty Sunday school class, order of the Eastern Star No. 104 in Liberal, 50/53 Study Club, the former Delta Kappa Gamma, life member of the Liberal PTA and former member of the Newton Nomad camping club. 

Catherine is survived by sisters, Naomi Yasinski and Maxine Ryan, both of Jacksonville, Fla. She also is survived by one niece, several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home. 

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. The Rev. Nancy Crowl will preside. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. 

Memorials may be left with Salem United Methodist Church, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
