Obituary: Emma Esther Buller Frey

Emma Esther Buller Frey, 102, passed away on Wednesday (March 16, 2011) at Kidron Bethel Healthcare in North Newton. 

She was born on Sept. 28, 1908, in Buhler to David and Katherine (Unruh) Buller. On Sept. 13, 1931, she married Arthur P. Frey. He preceded her in death in July 1983. 

Emma was a 24-year resident of Kidron Bethel, first in an apartment and later the healthcare area. She is a long-term Newton resident and member of First Mennonite Church in Newton. Emma was a homemaker and loved to read, pray and sing. 

Emma is survived by her daughters, Frances and Ben Smith of Hesston, Norma and George Goering of McKinney, Texas, and Connie Sandate and Mike Moore of Newton; and one son, Merle and Winifred Frey of Greenville, Texas. She had 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, with family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. 

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in rural Newton. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at First Mennonite Church Newton. Pastor Ted Veer will officiate. 

Memorials may be left with Kidron Bethel or First Mennonite Church, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
