Obituary

Marie Claassen, 96, died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Pine Village in Moundridge. She was born September 1, 1915 in Inman, Kansas to Peter and Elizabeth (Towes) Friesen. On November 8, 1935 she married Eric R. Claassen in Newton, Kansas and he preceded her in death on December 24, 2003. Marie attended Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton and enjoyed watching First United Methodist Church in Wichita’s Television Ministry. She had a great love of music and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She was a former member of the Golden Notes in Newton and sang in the church choirs. She taught Sunday school and was a youth teacher and sponsor. Marie also volunteered for MCC. She was a loving mother and grandmother of three and great grandmother of six. She greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving family and many friends. She is survived by her daughters: Joelene Harris and spouse, Larry of Wichita, and Marilyn Campbell and spouse, Albert of Chico, CA.; sister in law, Dorothy Stucky of Moundridge. Marie is preceded in death by her parents; Husband: Eric; Brothers: Herman, George, Martin, Ted, Abe, Herbert, and Sam Friesen; and sister Lena Friesen. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. A private family burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Newton, Kansas.
